PeopleCert, a global leader in the delivery of examination and accreditation services, in partnership with LanguageCert and Prometric®, will start accepting online exam bookings for Secure English Language Tests (SELT) for UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI).

This development comes at a time when international testing is being heavily disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. All stakeholders are advised to follow the news section of the LanguageCert website to ensure they are kept up-to-date with the latest changes affecting exam delivery.

LanguageCert SELT exams have been made possible through the sustained efforts of the three organisations together, leading to the acquisition of a Permit to Operate (PTO), the formal notice of Home Office approval for the delivery of the SELT service. The PTO was granted after a period of Home Office validation, ensuring that the end-to-end SELT service is ready to open for wider SELT testing.

SELT exam bookings are spearheaded by LanguageCert, using its Home Office approved SELT exams for UKVI purposes. The exams, which cover all visa requirements for those looking to live, work or study in the UK, are delivered worldwide through an extensive network of LanguageCert approved SELT Test Centres, in partnership with Prometric.

LanguageCert SELT exams assess two skills (Speaking & Listening) or four skills (Listening, Reading, Writing & Speaking).

• LanguageCert International ESOL SELT (Speaking & Listening), designed specifically for visa and immigration purposes at levels A1, A2, B1. The exam is taken online in the presence of an online live Interlocutor.
• LanguageCert International ESOL SELT (Listening, Reading, Writing & Speaking), at levels B1, B2, C1, C2. The Listening, Reading & Writing exams are currently delivered via Computer-based testing, whilst the Speaking exam is delivered in the presence of an online live Interlocutor.

Due to COVID-19, LanguageCert’s live SELT exams have been postponed, with delivery anticipated to start in most locations from 1 July 2020 onwards. When registering for exams, applicants choose from two available options. They can select an exam date (with slots becoming available from 1 July) or buy a voucher and choose to sit their exam when SELT exam delivery re-opens by booking the exam slot that best suits them. Measures are in place to closely monitor the pandemic globally. If local restrictions remain in place beyond 1 July, applicants will be supported to re-schedule their booked exam slot.

LanguageCert SELT exams are regulated by Ofqual and mapped to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference). The delivery format for the spoken exams is unique across the global SELT service, enabling candidates to interact in real-time with an online live Interlocutor at their chosen SELT Test Centre.
