Prospective LanguageCert Interlocutors can complete their training by following the steps below:
- Step 1 and Step 2 familiarise them with LanguageCert International ESOL exams. This should take between 1 and 2 hours.
- Step 3 is a training webinar that lasts roughly an hour.
- Step 4 is an Interlocutor Training Workbook quiz which takes 15 to 30 minutes.
- Step 5 is a mock interview recording which lasts an hour.
Step 1
All prospective LanguageCert Interlocutors are required to study the Guide for Interlocutors.
Step 2
It is recommended that at least one practice paper from each level is studied in order to become familiar with the format and content of LanguageCert International ESOL exams.

Step 5
Record and submit a mock interview, making sure to:
- Select a volunteer to role-play the ‘candidate’. Their performance is not assessed.
- Download a Speaking practice paper (levels A1-C2) and study the interlocutor script.
- Read the Specific Guidance and Advice in the Guide for Interlocutors for the level that is being examined.
- Think of appropriate follow-up questions that may be required during the exam.
- Prepare the exam space (paper, pencil/pen, recording equipment) and make sure everything is working correctly.
- Record a mock interview.
- Email it to interlocutors@peoplecert.org, referencing the name, practice paper and level examined (e.g. PP2 Achiever/B1). Audio files must be submitted in either mp3, m4a or wma format. The recorded interview must be sent as one file containing all four parts of the mock speaking exam.
Next steps
All prospective LanguageCert Interlocutors who apply receive a feedback form and comments via email. Please note that exams can only be conducted by Interlocutors who have successfully completed their training.
‘To standard’ recordings
Prospective Interlocutors whose recordings are ‘to standard’ will receive their Approved Interlocutor Certificate and an automated link to register their credentials to LanguageCert’s Exams platform.
‘Below standard’ recordings
Prospective Interlocutors whose recordings are ‘below standard’ will need to submit a different recording, taking into consideration the comments outlined in the feedback form.
‘To standard’ recordings
Prospective Interlocutors whose recordings are ‘to standard’ will receive their Approved Interlocutor Certificate and an automated link to register their credentials to LanguageCert’s Exams platform.
