How does COVID-19 affect my UK visa English language exam?
At present, the majority of SELT Test Centres around the world are open. However, if your local Test Centre is closed, you can purchase a LanguageCert SELT exam voucher online, which will allow you to book an exam slot at a later date, once your local SELT Test Centre re-opens.
Where can I take LanguageCert SELT exams?
As per UKVI requirements, UK visa exams must be taken at SELT Test Centres. To find a SELT Test Centre near you, click here.
Can I take LanguageCert SELT exams online?
LanguageCert SELT exams are not available to take through LanguageCert Online exams with remote, live invigilation. LanguageCert SELT exams are only available at LanguageCert SELT Test Centres.
How can I reschedule a LanguageCert SELT exam?
You can reschedule booked exams in two ways:
- Log in to your candidate account on www.languagecert.org
- Go to Overview section → My Exams → Select Exam → Change Date
- Contact LanguageCert customer service at selt@languagecert.org or the dedicated SELT phone numbers available on selt.languagecert.org/support
Please note that you can reschedule your exam free of charge up to 72 hours before its start time. An administrative fee will be charged after this point.
The following fees apply:
- Up to 72 hours before the exam: Free
- Less than 72 hours before the exam: £50
- Post-exam: £100
How can I cancel and request a refund for a LanguageCert SELT exam?
- If you bought a SELT voucher without booking a specific exam date, you can request a full refund within 14 calendar days after purchase. Simply contact LanguageCert customer service at selt@languagecert.org or the dedicated SELT phone numbers that are available on https://selt.languagecert.org/support
- If you booked a specific exam date, you can request a refund by completing the “Refund Request form”, which must be submitted to LanguageCert customer service at selt@languagecert.org.
Refunds:
- Up to 72 hours before the exam: 50% refund
- Less than 72 hours before the exam: no refund (in the case of emergencies a 50% refund applies)
How can I prepare for my LanguageCert SELT exam?
LanguageCert has a wide variety of free self-study resources available, such as practice papers and videos, as well as information on useful preparation books.
Is car parking available at the SELT Test Centres?
No, there is no car parking available at any of the SELT Test Centres. It’s important that you plan your journey in advance in order to arrive at the Test Centre at the specified time. If you will be driving to the Test Centre please make sure that you plan ahead to identify nearby car parks.
How can I help to keep the test centre environment safe and hygienic?
All of our test centres have pre-exam waiting areas. Please ensure that you dispose of any tissues, empty drinks bottles or cups and general rubbish appropriately. Please avoid leaving any such items undisposed within the test centre.
How do transgender customers who do not want to disclose their previous identity when booking a SELT test go about arranging this?

Will candidates who have purchased Take2 for LanguageCert SELT 4facet exams get a refund if they unexpectedly achieve a High Pass for BOTH components?
No, the service is non-transferable, non-refundable and cannot under any circumstances be redeemed for cash or credit.
Will candidates who have purchased Take2 for LanguageCert SELT 4facet exams get a refund if they fail BOTH components?
No. The service is non-refundable and can also been activated/redeemed under specific conditions.
Can candidates add Take2 for LanguageCert SELT 4facet exams after the registration?
Take2 can be purchased only during the initial SELT test booking.
What documentation do I need to book AND sit a SELT exam?
You must have a valid form of photographic ID, such as a Passport, EU ID card, Valid Travel Document (this does not include Emergency Travel Documents), Biometric Residence Permits (BRP), Biometric Residence Card (BRC), Government ID card (only accepted in the country it was issued in). You MUST ensure ALL your Candidate Profile details (names, date of birth, ID number, nationality) match identically to the details contained within the ID. Please note, you MUST bring the SAME photo ID on exam day.
What time do I need to arrive at the Test Centre?
You MUST arrive at the Test Centre at least 30 minutes before the exam begins.
Can I bring a relative or a friend to the Test Centre?
ONLY candidates can attend the Test Centre. NO visitors are allowed to attend the Test Centre.
Will I need to use a computer?
The LanguageCert SELT Written exam is taken on a computer. The LanguageCert SELT Speaking exam is a short conversation with an examiner online.
What happens if I have changed my name, and my name is different from the one on my identity document?
A test taker who has changed their name from the one in their identity document MUST PROVIDE ACCEPTABLE IDENTIFICATION IN THEIR NEW NAME. The following documents will NOT be accepted:
- marriage certificate
- UK spouse visa in a passport or a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)
- original deed poll change of name document
Where a test taker does not have a valid identity document they should Contact the Home Office.
If a test taker has a previous gender (including a different name) that they do not want the test centre staff to see or for it to show on their test result, they should email sensitivebookings@homeoffice.gov.uk before booking the test.
How do I make arrangements if I require assistance on exam day?
If you require any form of assistance because of a disability for example, it is important that you contact our Customer Service team before booking your exam and we will endeavour to accommodate your needs. If you have already booked your exam, please contact Customer Service as soon as convenient.
